Welcome

Motherly Intercession works to strengthen families by breaking the cycle of intergenerational incarceration.

The Facts

There are approximately 45,000 children in Genesee County who have a mother or father that is currently or has been incarcerated in the past.
Impact on Children
What Happens?
A prison sentence for a parent is, by extension, punishment for their children. While the parent is incarcerated, their children lose much of the stability in their lives when they are shuffled from one caregiver to another, foster care, separated from other siblings, and/or have no means of visiting their incarcerated parent.

Risks
The children of incarcerated parents are guilty only of love. The problems that develop during parental incarceration create a breeding ground for emotional and social disorders that have a lifelong NEGATIVE impact on the children's lives.

Outcomes
Unfortunately, these young victims tend to fall below the radar screen of society and are left at risk of: School failure/dropout, delinquency, substance use and abuse, and possibility of future incarceration.
